Following is a summary of topics addressed at KCC's Board of Trustees meeting, March 11, 2024.


Guests. The Board heard presentations from the following guests:

  • Business Affairs discussed procurement processes and Facilities staff shared information about the solar array.


Action Items. The Board approved the following:

  • Request to bid a switch refresh and cyber security software
  • Request to bid College Center and Auditorium renovations
  • Letters of Intent for KCC athletics teams
  • Resolution honoring Michele Buikema


President's Report. Dr. Boyd said…

  • The application for admission is now available in Spanish.
  • Clay Sterling, full-time professor in Renewable Energy and Randy Gerdes, adjunct professor in Paramedic are being recognized as KCC Faculty-of-the-Year award recipients for 2024.
  • Jennifer Mulligan, a teacher in our Adult and Community Education program, was selected as the Illinois Adult & Continuing Educators Association (IACEA) Arthur J. Stejskal Memorial Teacher of the Year for 2024. She was presented with this award last Thursday at the annual IACEA Awards Luncheon.
  • Cari Stevenson is this year's recipient of the Society of Psychological Study of Social Issues Two-Year Teaching and Mentoring Excellence Award.  She will accept this award at the annual conference in June.
  • The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) has awarded the MLT program with continued accreditation until 2029.  Lamanda Baade is the program director.
  • Richland Community College is still recovering from a cyber security attack. There is a heightened awareness about cyber security on our campus and throughout the Illinois community college system.
  • The Marine Corps League donated a United States Space Force flag to the KCC Veterans Center
  • ICCB is reviewing KCC's Information Technology program for approval.


Trustee's Report. Brad Hove said…

  • The ICCTA meetings went very well. The participants had positive and enthusiastic things to say about our campus, facilities, faculty and staff.
  • Topics included dual credit, transitions ahead for the future of higher education, and Artificial Intelligence.
