Greetings everyone!  I was asked to create a portal post reminding everyone on what "Proper Dress" looks like.  Please keep in mind that wearing jeans in the week (other than the last day of the work week for those who made a donation to the KCC Foundation and/or United Way) is not appropriate, even in the summer.

Here is our policy on Proper Dress:

9.11     Proper Dress

Employees should recognize that as representatives of the College they are judged not only by the service they render and their actions toward students and the public, but also by their personal appearance. In order to help make a positive impression, the College requests that employees dress appropriately for the position in which they work, and that their attire be neat and clean.  Generally speaking, all employees of the college are expected to wear business casual attire, except on approved "Spirit/Casual Days" in which jeans may be worn if accompanied by a KCC shirt/sweatshirt, or a Cavaliers spirit wear t-shirt.

Employees of the Physical Plant Department are required to wear uniforms, and certain employees of the ITS department are required to wear KCC collared shirts. Procedures for obtaining and maintaining required uniform apparel can be obtained from the Director of each department.

The immediate supervisor or the Human Resources officer may provide guidance or clarification regarding proper dress.

So what does "business casual" attire look like?  Here are a few examples:

  • Pants that are either cotton, khaki, twill, or corduroy (no blue jeans, shorts, or leggings worn as pants)
  • Dress/skirt, if desired
  • A cotton dress shirt/blouse that buttons down the front, or a knit polo shirt with a collar, or a cardigan, or sweater (no hoodies)
  • Dress casual shoes, such as Oxfords, loafer, leather slip-ons, dress sandals or boots (no athletic shoes/sneakers or beach-type flip flops)
  • Belt
  • Tie, if desired

If anyone has any questions on what is and what isn't appropriate, please contact me directly at ext. 8128.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
