Following is a summary of topics addressed at KCC's Board of Trustees meeting, June 18, 2024.

Action Items.
The Board approved the following:

  • Request to approve the budget draft and to operate within it.
  • Request to bid science supplies.
  • Bid awards for VMWare.
  • Increase of the treasurer's bond.
  • Update to the Education Affiliation Agreement between Riverside and KCC.
  • Final reading of the personnel policy concerning fraud, waste and abuse.
  • Resolution honoring full-time retirees.
Guests.
Senator Joyce visited the board at the end of the meeting to discuss his successful legislative effort to have Kankakee identified as a clean energy jobs act hub.

President's Report.
Dr. Boyd said…

  • Welcome to the new student trustee, Robert Rogers.
  • Enrollment is up 10.89% for the summer semester, with Hispanic student enrollment surging 32%. The increases are a result of the intentional and deliberate work of Hispanic engagement efforts, and the planful work of the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee.
  • The State of Illinois' budget was approved with a 2% overall increase for higher ed.
  • Construction on campus is going well.
  • Thirty-two athletes are Academic All-Americans, about 20% of all KCC student athletes. This means our student athletes are excelling on the field and in the classroom.

ICCTA meeting was held on June 7 in Lombard. Agenda included improving transfer articulation agreements with common course numbering, dual credit and the K-12 system, and discussion about the Governor's budget.

Student Trustee's Report.
Robert Rogers said…
Robert is excited to be a part of the Board and introduced himself as a Momence resident and Momence high school graduate. He told the board that he is a second-year KCC student studying Criminal Justice and a student worker with the KCC Police Department.

Then, he gave the following report:

  • Student Life and the EDI committee hosted the Juneteenth seminar on campus, featuring Dr. Leonard Porter talking about the history of Juneteenth.
  • Student Resource Fair and Welcome Back activities are being planned for late-August when students return for the fall semester.
