Beginning May 19, KCC will be switching to a summer hour work schedule. Full time staff will be allowed to work a compressed work week by working a four day, (normally Mon-Thurs) 10-hour schedule. Or, in response to many of your requests, staff could work a four day, 8-hour or 9-hour schedule totaling 32 or 36 hours of work for the week without having to use vacation time. Of course, one's pay would be paid accordingly.
Another option available is to use your Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (IPLFAWA) time (up to 40 hours in a calendar year coming out of your available sick time). Please discuss this with your immediate supervisor for approval if any of these last two options are of interest to you, as well as what hours you are requesting to work this summer.
The 10-hour day could begin as early as 6:30 am, and end at 10 pm. Here are some examples of a 10-hour workday:
- 6:30 am - 4:30 pm
- 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
- 7:30 am - 5:30 pm
- 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
- 8:30 am - 6:30 pm
Full time staff will NOT need to punch in and out, nor account for lunch - KCC is GIFTING you the time so that your 10-hour day includes a paid 30-minute lunch period during the summer work schedule.
The college will be closed on Fridays from May 23-July 25, except for May 30 due to the Memorial Day holiday on May 26. That week, full time employees will be scheduled to work 8-hr days Tuesday, May 27 -Friday, May 30.
The week of June 16, full time employees will be scheduled to work (3) 10-hour days on June 16-18. The college will be closed celebrating Juneteenth on June 19 and the college will gift FT employees 2 hours of time on June 20 to account for the 40 hour week.
The week of June 30, full time employees will be scheduled to work (4) 8-hour days Mon-Thursday, and have Friday, July 4, off as a paid holiday.
Full time staff will still be paid their 30-minute lunch period during these three weeks.
