Colleagues,

I'm sure you've already seen news of the federal government shutdown. You may now have questions regarding how this shutdown may impact KCC, so I'm writing this article today to share a few insights.
  • Distribution of Pell grants and Title IV student aid should not be impacted.
  • Access to most grant funds such as those supporting Adult Ed, TRIO, Perkins, and most WIOA programs should not be impacted.
  • Furloughs and layoffs for federal government employees may impact the level of responsiveness we expect from those offices.
As we consider what lies ahead, it may be helpful to recall that the last shutdown of the federal government occurred for 35 days spanning December of 2017 to January of 2018. The impact to KCC during that time was minimal, and my hope is that we'll be able to say the same thing after this current shutdown concludes.

For now, we keep moving forward as normal.  If the situation changes in any significant way, I'll provide more updates.
