A new training module for creating accessible documents is launching through Vector Solutions. This training is required for staff and administrators and encouraged for faculty as part of our broader accessibility and compliance efforts.

Our corporate trainer, Monique Newell, designed the training to be a brief, easy to follow way for everyone to gain practical knowledge.

This initiative comes as updated WCAG 2.1 AA standards has a compliance deadline in April. These requirements reinforce the legal and ethical responsibility we share to ensure the materials we create and distribute are usable by everyone. From course handouts and reports to web content and public-facing documents, accessibility helps remove barriers so all members of our community can fully engage.

Why this matters

Accessible documents benefit every stakeholder:

  • Students gain equitable access to learning materials, regardless of ability or technology.
  • Faculty can deliver content more effectively and reach diverse learners.
  • Staff ensure information is clear, usable, and compliant.
  • Community members can access public resources without obstacles.

Part of a larger effort

Document accessibility is just one component of a broader, all-college initiative. A dedicated team has been working to identify and close accessibility gaps across our website and software systems. Over the past year, the group has met with departments to explain upcoming changes, provide education, and implement updates that move us toward full compliance. Under Craig Keigher's leadership, the Teaching and Learning Center has offered multiple Canvas trainings and ongoing support.

The work isn't over in April. We'll need everyone to know how to accessibility create emails, documents, slide decks, and more going forward.

If you have questions, please direct them to me, Roger Ehmpke or Craig Keigher.
