Beginning May 18, KCC will be switching to a summer hour work schedule. Full time staff will be allowed to work a compressed work week by working a four day, (normally Mon-Thurs) 10-hour schedule. Or, in response to many of your requests, staff could work a four day, 8-hour or 9-hour schedule totaling 32 or 36 hours of work for the week without having to use vacation time. Of course, one's pay would be paid accordingly. If you choose a reduced schedule and are not using accrued time, be sure to clearly note this in the comments section of your timesheet.
Another option available is to use your Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act (IPLFAWA) time (up to 40 hours in a calendar year coming out of your available sick time). Please discuss this with your immediate supervisor for approval if any of these last two options are of interest to you, as well as what hours you are requesting to work this summer.
The 10-hour day* could begin as early as 6:30 am, and end at 10 pm. Here are some examples of a 10-hour workday:
- 6:30 am - 4:30 pm
- 7:00 am - 5:00 pm
- 7:30 am - 5:30 pm
- 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
- 8:30 am - 6:30 pm
*During weeks that include a holiday when the college reverts to 8-hour schedules, employees should follow their non-summer work hours.
Full time staff will NOT need to punch in and out, nor account for lunch - KCC is GIFTING you the time so that your 10-hour day includes a paid 30-minute lunch period during the summer work schedule.
The college will be closed on Fridays from May 22-July 31, except for May 29 due to the Memorial Day holiday on May 25th. That week, full time employees will be scheduled to work 8-hr days Tuesday, May 26 -Friday, May 29.
The week of June 15, full time employees will be scheduled to work (4) 8-hour days Mon-Thursday, and have Friday, June 19th off as a paid holiday to observe Juneteenth.
The week of June 30th, full time employees will be scheduled to work (4) 8-hour days Mon-Thursday, and have Friday, July 3, off as a paid holiday to observe 4th of July.
Full time staff will still be paid their 30-minute lunch period during these three weeks.
